post

Buenos días, amigas.  ¡Otra miércoles jueves (por una buena razón), otra canción!  Esta semana, os traemos Thalía’s “Solo Parecía Amor” (“Only Seemed Like Love”).

Más de La Reina

Here is another beautiful canción from a beautiful young lady, the queen of Latina Pop, Thalía!  I usually go in for Thalía’s faster moving numbers, but this one accented her voice so well, and featured such dramatic and vibrant wardrobe and makeup, too, that I can’t resist watching it every time it pops up in my YouTube queue.

The video doesn’t offer much in terms of a “story” — nothing like Danna Paola’s “Todo Fue Un Show“, for example.  Instead, it concentrates on beautiful music and lyrics, accompanied by what I have always referred to, tongue in cheek, as “ain’t I pretty” poses.  Luckily, of course, Thalía is!

I hope you enjoy “Solo Parecía Amor”.  Warning: It’s another muy-triste.  If you recently (within the last 30 years or so) went through a break up, you might want to pass this one over for now and go grab something we’ve shared with you from Jenny or Daddy Yankee.  😉

46% and climbing (but too slowly)

Still chugging along with my Duolingo studies.  I’m getting excited about venturing into new territory, but, as I mentioned before, frustrated that I constantly need to go back and “strengthen” skills I’ve already completed.  I guess that’s the way they designed it, of course, but it often feels like a one-step-forward-and-two-steps back kind of “progress” to me!

We (mi esposa y yo) are also taking small bytes out of our Rocket Spanish class again, which is helpful.  The challenge there is making enough time for a 25- to 30-minute interactive lesson, followed by another half hour of listening, reading, and writing exercises.  It truly is the way to go for a serious student.  And that’s what I want to be.  It is just a matter of making the time.  Ah, time….

Bueno, mi amigos, that’s about all I have for you this week.  I keep hoping to carve out an hour one of these days and offer a translation for one of my favorites over at LyricsTranslate.com.  It would help me, I’m sure, and hopefully help someone else in the process.  Once I get one posted, I’ll be sure to share it with you here, so stay tuned, please.

¡Hasta luego, amigas!
