post

Buenos días, amigas.  ¡Otra miércoles, otra canción!  Esta semana, os traemos Paty Cantú’s “Clavo Que Saca Otro Clavo” (“Nail That Drives Out Another”).

Hooked on Paty (y Lu, también)

Recently, I have been listening to a lot of Lu and Paty Cantú.  Stands to reason, I guess, since I purchased a couple of albums of their work recently and have been testing my ripping software.  (Side note:  While I love using Linux in most cases, it’s working with AV that makes me miss my MacBook at times.)

Paty’s voice grew on me.  That is, when I first heard her, I liked her.  One of the first few videos I shared was actually a Paty Cantú hit called “Suerte“, as a matter of fact.

But, having bathed in her sound more and more over the past year or so, starting with my addiction to “La Vida Después De Ti” last summer, that voice has grown on me more and more.  I can hardly get my fill some days!

Do any of you ever turn a song on repeat, either on your digital device or car’s CD player?  I know I do, and between this tune and another I’ll share in a few weeks (if my memory holds up), I must be really burning a hole in that CD in my truck’s player!

Oh, and of course, the visuals in this selection are stunning, from the early 80s MTV-style choreography and animation to Paty’s Pat Benatar-style makeup and wardrobe.  As Lupita is fond of saying… eye candy!

Some progress in Rocket Spanish

Mi esposa y yo got in a little practice with Amy, Mauricio, and the gang last week.  We’re trying to get 2-3 practices in per week now.  Unfortunately, we did not meet that goal, but we did get one practice in, which was better than the week before!  We have now finished with Lessons 9.1, 9.2, and 9.3, and we’re getting somewhat more comfortable with the preterite past tense.

Irregular verbs still puzzle me, but I’m convinced that I’m just going to have to rely on memorization in some cases, just as with English.  That’s all right, though — we’ve all done that (at least) once before; right?

I also started getting a decent Duolingo streak going again, then ditched over the weekend.  I’m trying to get in to a groove there, and it just doesn’t want to happen.  Any good students out there want to share some tips with me on good study habits for folks who work full-time all day and then come home to yet more work?  I know I can’t be the only one.

Well, that’s about all I have for this week.  I’m still interested in getting a translation up on LyricsTranslate.com soon.  I haven’t forgotten.  When I do, I promise you’ll all be the first to know.

¡Hasta luego, amigas!
